Just Graduated? Get into Teaching!

Get into Teaching

Ready for a Fresh Start? Why Now Is the Time to Get Into Teaching

Have you recently graduated, or perhaps found yourself feeling stuck in the same role with little opportunity for growth? You might be craving a fresh start — a career where you can make a real difference and leave a lasting impact. If that sounds familiar, now could be the perfect time to get into teaching.

Teaching is often misunderstood as simply a job, but for those in the profession, it is much more than that. It is a vocation one that shapes futures, builds confidence, and changes lives. Most of us can still remember at least one teacher who made a difference, whether they inspired a love of learning, supported us through challenges, or helped us realise our potential. By choosing to get into teaching, you have the opportunity to become that person for the next generation.

A Career With Purpose, Variety, and Impact

No two days in teaching are ever the same. While there is structure and routine, each day brings new challenges, successes, and moments of progress. Teaching offers variety, creativity, and the chance to continually develop your skills making it a career where boredom is rarely an issue.

There’s no denying that teaching is hard work. It requires resilience, dedication, and commitment. However, the rewards far outweigh the challenges. Ask any teacher about their proudest moments and you’ll hear stories of students gaining confidence, overcoming barriers, and achieving things they once believed were impossible. These moments are what make the decision to get into teaching so worthwhile.

A Supported Route to Get Into Teaching

At MAT Recruitment, we are proud to work in partnership with United Teaching, an outstanding initial teacher training programme delivered by United Learning.

United Teaching offers a school-based route for those looking to get into teaching while gaining practical, hands-on experience from day one. United Learning is a national group of over 80 schools across England, providing trainees with access to a strong support network and a wealth of expertise.

Through this programme, you can achieve both QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a PGCE, supported by experienced mentors, tutors, and subject specialists throughout your training year.

What Does the Training Year Look Like?

The programme begins with a one-week summer school hosted in one of the trust’s lead schools. This provides a strong foundation before you move into your host school, where you’ll spend the majority of your training year.

Alongside classroom experience, you’ll receive additional training one afternoon per week and complete a second placement in a contrasting school. This helps broaden your experience, build confidence, and strengthen your teaching portfolio all while being immersed in a real school environment.

Why Choose a School-Based Route?

If you’re considering how to get into teaching, you may be weighing up university-led routes versus school-based training. Training in a school allows you to develop key teaching skills from day one, build professional relationships early, and gain a deeper understanding of school life.

This immersive experience often gives trainees a competitive advantage, as they graduate with practical classroom experience alongside their qualification. Many also find it a smoother transition into their first teaching role.

Opportunities Beyond Qualification

United Teaching doesn’t just help you get into teaching  it supports your long-term career development. There are opportunities to refine your practice, explore leadership pathways, and progress within the trust. Currently, there are vacancies across the UK in core subjects including Maths, English, and Science.

If you’re ready to get into teaching and want expert guidance on the right route for you, the team at MAT Recruitment is here to help.
