Education professionals need to know how to recognise potential concerns, listen appropriately, record information accurately and report concerns through the correct school procedures.

Safeguarding Training
Who needs to complete safeguarding training?
Safeguarding knowledge is essential for anyone working with children and young people in an education setting. MAT Recruitment candidates should complete any safeguarding training required as part of their registration and compliance process.
What should I do if a pupil tells me something concerning?
Listen calmly, take the disclosure seriously, avoid promising confidentiality, record relevant information and report it through the school’s safeguarding procedures.
Should I investigate a safeguarding concern myself?
No. Your role is to recognise and report concerns, not to investigate them. Follow the school’s safeguarding procedure and pass the information to the appropriate safeguarding lead.
Do I still need to follow the school’s safeguarding procedures?
Yes. MAT Recruitment training supports your safeguarding knowledge, but you must always follow the individual school’s safeguarding policy, reporting process and induction arrangements.
