Amongst the anticipation, earlier this week the 2025-26 Budget was released. Bringing notable changes to the Education sector, targeting improvements in early years, SEND, childcare and school infrastructure.
Key investments into early years, is proposed to bring an additional £1.8 billion in public spending. This will enable expanded childcare provisions and the development of new nursery facilities. SEND resources are set to receive substantial funding, reflecting a commitment to supporting students with special educational and developmental needs. It is hoped that the budget is expected to facilitate better training, resources, and the recruitment of further teaching staff specifically for SEND. This is to relieve the pressure on current SEND services.
Colleges and further education institutions are also said to gain a £300 million boost, to target infrastructure improvements to equip students with further vocational and higher education pathways. The budget allocates £1.4 billion to extend the School Rebuilding Programme, to rebuild faulty school buildings and build upon the facilities to offer schools.
With the main focus for the education sector surrounding the challenges facing schools. Schools are set to benefit from a £2.3 billion boost aimed at supporting the latest teacher pay awards, vital for retaining qualified educators and improving classroom standards. Additionally, enhanced funding for breakfast clubs has been announced underscoring the government’s push to ensure children have access to the right resources. In the hope attendance, engagement and readiness to learn will improve through the nurture of learners.
For Schools and Multi-Academy Trusts, these changes signify potential improvements in resources, staffing and infrastructure, which open opportunities to recruitment. With greater financial backing for teacher pay and infrastructure, it is hoped that the sector may experience stronger retention and the attraction of educators and support staff.
